Dynamic (Database Driven) Web Sites
Dynamic (or database driven) web sites are the second common type of web sites seen on the internet today. They differ from static web sites in several very important ways.
Dynamic web pages usually utilize a template based system that 'pulls' or loads information from a database each time a visitor loads a web page. This allows the web site owner to provide 'customized' content to visitors. Sites that have user log-in features and are capable of 'remembering' a visitor from the last time he/she visited the site are most often Dynamic Sites.
Most E-commerce (web store) sites are database driven.
While a dynamic site usually costs more to design and develop 'up-front' - the long range cost can be far less than that of a static web site where the owner has to pay a fee each time he/she wants to change or update the site.
Both types (static and dynamic) of sites have a valid place on the internet today. It is important to examine the goals, plans and expected outcome of your new web site, in order to determine which type of site is best for you.
